it was a wonderful
time at ERDC. I was equipped with tools and techniques of teaching.
the course was comprising of three modules each consisting 3 parts and it was
delivered in order. Of six months. I really could not forget how I change my
perception of the way I should teach and the way students should learn . I
have showcased some of my work and gathered my reflections according to the 3
modules as under.
we began our course with Mr
Zubair Sheikh, project officer at ERDC, giving us the introductory session the
participants were introduced with each other.
I could never forget the activity
use for introducing the names we have to make adjectives of each word in our
name that defines our nature as far as I was concerned for alphabet give
me hard time.
I was also asked to make a Facebook group of my batch as I
was good in these things, helping each other out in their queries online, Finally we were all given 2 spiral bound journals called reflective Journals of RJ. We could write anything we like and one the faculty members were assigned to us as mentors to monitor our RJs. For me it was the first time that some body have asked ME what do I feel about what I have learned. Our first RJ was to make a time line of our life , being fancy here was allowed so I became a little Tony Buzanish :) see the picture for illustration.
Module 1 : The teaching-learning process.
This module gave us a basic understanding about learning by understanding different types of learning styles I was able to identify that I am an active theoretical visual and linear learner which means that I would prefer pictures over text and tthat I'd prefer to talk the big picture rather than discuss minor details ( I might be a future CEO ! )
and then I understood that when I understand my learning style better and the best learning strategy for myself I could do the same for my students as well. we would also giving how children learn a book by John Hall 3 and asteroid reflections on any of the two passages from each chapter it was really a wonderful experience to learn for the first time what really takes for children to learn. we also made video of how children learn by making video of Julian doing things in real life since I was not teaching I made an animated video.
we were also given a project to observe a child using early childhood development checklist it was first time for me to deal. Click the link below to watch my assignment
Early Childhoold Education Research
Finally the best thing I liked about this module was the learning styles worksheet where we could break out the lesson plans and activities in order to cater the needs of different types of learners. Click the link below to view my modes of teaching assignment

Reflection on book: I was a slow reader and it was difficult to read anything other then prescribed in the syllabus, but during my course I managed to read 3 books. click the link below to view my reflections on John Holt

Module 2 : The contents of teaching.
more do you do was courage to
teach we were introduced to the role of teaching in the classroom my important
learning from this module was six fundamental questions every detail must
reflect upon the skill of questioning and discussion were also important part
of this module
we went on to covering the skill
level module with the study skills toolkit covering different skills that help
us improve our efficiency being a teacher . the topic ranges from time
management reading writing and communication skills I really remember the time
management workshop by sir a his presentation really help me identify
activities that I could avoid our plan in order to manage my time
specific strand
in this in this module we were
given choices to select for specialization I selected matts as I was Matt and
accounts teacher this was one of the most exciting module as I was
introduce two different teaching strategies I'm introduced to different
teaching strategies EPL was one of the most prominent concepts that I was
taught by Pamela Layback and I had devoted myself applying this concept from
then on . Ms Amna Shamim our course facilitator was indeed the right person for
this cause and she did the job with perfection . We were also introduced
to the 3 Act task method for teaching Maths by Dan Meyer and really he opened
my eyes as to how I could leverage my learning to teach mathematics. I am
really thankful to my teacher to introduce to me this valuable resource. I
decided to open a blog and use the same teaching strategy to teach my kids
We went on to make lesson plans
and analyse sample of question papers that needs improvement. All of these
activities sharpen my mathematical skills/ I decided to implement thses
activities in the class and tried implementing 3 Act maths task in the
classroom for me it did engage a greater number of students.
Remedial Plan is one of the most interesting assignments that I had to work on . Click below to watch my presentation
Module 3 : The tools of teaching.
Education of social Scieneces involved lecture. about explaining what is the is purpose of teaching social science. I could not forget his words that the most unsocial personal in the school is the one teaching social studies what an irony that is .
Drama and Creative expressions
were also discussed in the last module giving us insights about how can we
bring more creativity in the classrooms
For our final presentation and
skills development mioduel we asked to give and got feedback from sir Sulman.
